Any time you add a domain as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific company. On their end, three records are set up automatically as soon as the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the Internet domain where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that manages the emails for that specific domain. The site and the e-mail hosting are often regarded as one thing, while they're actually two different services. Having independent records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you wish. As an illustration, some new service provider may have fantastic uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain name to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you can get the best of both companies. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an email - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain address will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account with our company and you want to point either your site or your emails to another provider, it will take you literally simply 2 clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or create will not take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which indicates how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domains or subdomains is extremely easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are managed via our in-house built Hepsia CP, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any difficulties if you decide to move your site or e-mails to a different service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you could also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority depending on the recommendations of the new provider.
